Susan Hiller is an acclaimed artist based in London, England whose pioneering artworks span almost five decades. The video installations and photographic works in Altered States highlight Hiller’s concern with the unknowable and unspeakable aspects of human experience. Her works investigate dream states, language, the irrational and the mysteries of our collective unconscious.
Hiller undertakes rigorous research, assembling audio and visual cultural artefacts like horror movies, gospel drumming and morse code transmissions that reflect on how mediation and technology affects our perceptions of the world. Highly influential, Susan Hiller has exhibited and published widely. Altered States marks her first solo exhibition in Canada.
